I’ve been told by my customers that they recieve a call from a man who claims he needs to access their computer in order to prevent some sort of IMPORTANT sounding issue. The issue is never the same but this person must access your computer and access it now. They use a high pressure pitch which give the target no time to think. If you recieve one of these calls, DO NOT allow them access to your computer. There is no telling what they can install to monitor what you do or sniff for bank account information. You can also leave your phone off the hook until the scammer hangs up so the scammer’s call center gets charged for the call. Simply hanging up costs them nothing. Hit em’ where it hurts, that’s what they are trying to do to you…
These targeted attacks are likely the result of a Data Breach that happened somewhere and who knows when. Because of the Data Breach, someone has gotten general information about you and then tries to cold call to either gain access or more information to use against you. These are hard times for good and bad people alike so be on your toes.
