When I first heard of the new changes Carbonite was making to their home backup product I was worried. Carbonite is an easy to use product that just does it’s job without hand holding. Its simplicity is its strength. As long as the lock icon is green, you are good! Now, with three options to choose from for Home Backup Service, I’m worried the product has become a little clouded.
After investigating the new choices my worries are likely unfounded. There is still the Home backup that has unlimited storage for one computer and it’s only $59 a year. What is new is the Home Plus and Home Premier (Sounds like Microsoft jargon). Home Plus adds the ability to backup an external hard drive that is plugged into your computer, the Home Premier option adds the external hard drive, a “courier recovery service” and automatic video backup. Please note, the Home Plus and Home Premier Services are only available to Windows Users, I guess market share still stands for something…
What is Courier Recovery Service?
In a nutshell, when your computer crashes, Carbonite will send a new hard drive to you via courier so you can recover your files quicker. This option is really useful for clients who have a lot of data (over 100 Gigs) or no access to internet. The latter might happen during a storm or other natural disaster so if you like to have ALL the bases covered then the courier service is for you.
